I’m always happy to hear from prospective students, postdocs, and collaborators who see opportunities to work together. If you're interested, please email me with a brief introduction, your CV, and what excites you about our work. I do my best to respond within two weeks.

PhD Students

NYU Environmental Studies PhD program is highly interdisciplinary (encompassing natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities to address environmental issues) and structured somewhat differently than most Environmental/Atmospheric Science or Ecology programs. Students are not admitted directly to work with one specific faculty advisor; instead, students are admitted as a cohort and are expected to work closely with multiple faculty. Thus, students do not necessarily apply to “my lab”, and hopefully will work to bridge research across multiple labs or research groups. Nevertheless, if you are excited to work with me for part of your doctoral research, I encourage you to get in touch.

When reaching out, it helps to mention:

While our Ph.D. program guarantees 5 years of funding for admitted students, prospective students may also explore external fellowship opportunities.

Prospective applicants for the NYU Environmental Studies PhD program can sign up for our mailing list to receive updates. If you have further questions about the program generally, you can email phd.environmental.studies@nyu.edu.

Postdoctoral Researchers

Funded positions will be posted here when available. I'm also happy to collaborate on fellowship applications — feel free to reach out if you're interested. Some relevant fellowships include:

Undergraduate Research

I welcome NYU undergraduates interested in gaining research experience. Opportunities range from assisting with ongoing projects to developing independent research, depending on your interests and availability. I have advised students doing research under the support of NYU Deans Undergraduate Research Fund. The deadline for Spring 2026 application is March 25th.

If you're curious, email Yi to set up a time to chat about potential projects.
